Huckleberry Life: Lorelei's Baptism

So last weekend, we baptized our youngest daughter, Lorelei. The baptismal ceremony was in the evening so we decided to have a little reception beforehand to celebrate. My sister {and godmother} planned the little party that we threw for Lorelei and it was so adorable!

She went with a tea party theme and we had tiny sandwiches, petit fours, scones, and other yummy finger foods.

Like cucumber sandwiches. What tea party would be complete without these refreshing little sandwiches?

We also made some bacon gorgonzola chicken salad that was to die for and put it on top of little slices of artisan bread. This was my FAVORITE thing that we made {because I just really love bacon. And cheese.} and the only bad part about making smaller servings is that at the end of the day I had to admit to eating seven of these bad boys, which made me sound like a real pig.

We also had traditional madeleines, which were really good with the coffee.

We certainly didn't lack in the dessert department, offering tiny cupcakes and chocolate covered strawberries, among other things.

My mom's friend, who made the cookies for Corbin's birthday party early this year, made these beautiful cookies that I almost didn't want to eat.  My favorite one is the monogram.

The petit fours were not only super easy to make but were extremely delicious {find the recipe for them here}.

We decorated with doilies and even made a doily banner using Martha Stewart's doily kit {that's a lot of doilies in one sentence}. The party was a great success and everyone loved the small little desserts that we had made for them.

After the celebration at our house, we made our way to the church for the baptism. Lorelei was one of 13 being baptized and at 3 months was the youngest one. But she showed those older kids how it was done. Instead of crying {like the other kids}, she laughed as the cold water was poured on her head. I love how happy she is in almost any situation! It was such a special moment when we welcomed her into the church and I can't get over how perfect it was that my laid-back, very sweet little baby was all smiles and giggles as it happened.

My oldest, Evie, wearing the gown on her baptismal day.

Lorelei wore the same baptismal gown that my other two kids and it was made by my mother using fabric from my wedding dress. I was never one to want to preserve my dress and save it for my children to *maybe* wear later. Not that I didn't love my dress...I just thought that this way they can ALL wear my dress. But baptismal gown is not made from just my dress. We used lace from both my mom's and Collin's mom's wedding dresses to embellish the gown and add a little bit of family history to it.

The wide lace at the bottom of the dress is from my mom's wedding gown. The design of it is so pretty!

The tiny lace around the sleeves is from Collin's mom's wedding dress. This gown is so special to me and I love that we have created a family heirloom to pass on to our children {and our children's children even!}.

Our little baptismal celebration was the perfect way for us to have our friends and family gather round to share in Lorelei's special day. I couldn't have been happier with the way everything turned out and I am so lucky to have such an amazing sister that helped with all the planning! Love ya sisterzor!

  1. What a cute reception idea. I love this history behind the baptismal gown. So beautiful to keep the family history and this is way easier to pass down to the next generation than a wedding dress. Can't wait for the petit fours tutorial!

    1. Thanks so much, Ida! I agree...so much easier to pass down than a wedding dress {especially since mine was a huge ball gown style. Ha!}.

  2. My new dress arrived in 2 days, and was slightly wrinkled only due to folding in bag, I'd expect it to be worse. But like I always say, who cares anyway. If that's a big issue, I am still not complaining.
