Huckleberry Life: Introducing Emily

Hello everyone! Today it's my turn to share with you a few tidbits about my life. :)

I'm Emily. I come from a very large family consisting of 7 children (6 girls, 1 boy) and I am smack dab in the middle of the bunch.

Growing up in a large family has shaped who I am as a person. Of that, I am certain. Being the middle child is a hard role, especially when you're young. But, I feel that it really helped me shine. I'm confident, loud (ha!), opinionated (sometimes too much), loyal, stubborn, and not afraid to stand up for what I believe in. So many of these qualities I know were attained from being in the middle of a large bunch!

We are SO classy.
I love my siblings with all of my being. While I have different relationships with each and every one of them, they all hold a special place in my heart. Our loyalty and love for each over never wavers and I'm so happy that I have six built-in friends who are always there to encourage me when I fall and to build me up when I am feeling down. It's an amazing blessing. :)

We've grown into quite the crew. There have been engagements, marriages and children and now my immediate family has grown from nine to twenty three! It's usually pretty loud and crazy when we get together, but I wouldn't have it any other way! :)

I met my husband Jason 8 1/2 years ago. Our "meet cute" is a romantic one- I hit on him in a bar. Ha ha! From there, our unconventional love story took off pretty quickly. More about that another time.

He is the most patient, calm and level-headed man I know. We definitely balance each other out well, since I can get a bit hot-headed and emotional at times. He truly is my soul mate and I marvel at our chance meeting. It really was fate that we met that night. :)

Jason is a Global Business Development Manager for an International Oil and Gas Company. We relocated down to Houston from Northeast Ohio five years ago with his previous employer. So far, things have been going well for us in Southeast Texas. We miss all of the nature back home, but we've adjusted pretty well to the concrete jungle and humidity that Houston has to offer!

We are the proud parents of two little boys: Aidan is 3 1/2 and Connor is 2. They are 18 months apart. (What was I thinking?!)

Aidan is our little firecracker. While he looks like Daddy, he has many of my personality traits. This little boy is high energy and loves anything that involves sports or playing outside. He is extremely talented when it comes to hitting a baseball, throwing a football or kicking a soccer ball. We definitely have a future athlete on our hands!

Aidan is a mischief maker, but also a loyal brother and friend. He would do anything to protect Connor and loves to "take care" of his little brother. He is a puzzle master and can do 75 piece puzzles all on his own. Aidan can be a bit of a handful at times and I find myself having to constantly monitor his behavior so that things don't get out of hand. But, then again, he is a 3 1/2 year old boy. He loves when we go on worm hunts after a rain shower, visiting the Zoo and Children's Museum, coloring and painting, singing songs, riding his bike and reading books. His enthusiasm for life is insatiable and I know he has an amazing and brilliant future ahead of him!

Connor is my sweet little monkey man. He has a very different personality from his brother. Easy going since the minute he was born, he is my little lover boy. Connor loves to give and receive hugs and kisses and is still quite the cuddle bug. In the past few months he has become much more independent and wants to do almost everything himself. I think having a big brother to look up to has caused him to catch onto things very quickly.

Connor loves going to school, playing with cars and trains, tickle fights, animals, reading books, puzzles and playing with his big brother. He wakes up every morning with a smile on his face, excited to see what the day has in store for him! While he is sometimes the victim of his brothers "mischief", he takes it in stride and it has made him a stronger person. His vocabulary has exploded in the past few months and I'm amazed at the new words that come out of his mouth everyday! He calls himself "Dah-der" and calls Aidan "Yay-Yay". Connor's laugh is infectious and his smile would light up any room. He's simply incredible. :)

As for me, I'm the COO of our little clan. I love to plan, organize and create. In the evenings you can often find me working on new items for my Etsy shop, baking something delicious that I found while perusing Pinterest, or snuggling up on the couch and watching a movie with my main squeeze.

In case you haven't noticed by now, I have a HUGE smile! :)
I enjoy trying out new recipes, crafting, going to movies (Lydia and I are movie buddies), reading books (my all-time favorite author is Maeve Binchy) and spending time with my family. Once the boys are a bit older, I plan on going back to school to finish up my degree so that I'll be able to teach History on a Community College level. It won't be for a few years, but I know that when the time comes I'll be ready and excited to get back into the workforce. Right now, though, I'm happy with my position as a stay at home Mommy. My boys will only be this small for a short period of time and I am so glad to be able to watch them grow. :)

Thanks for stopping by and reading a little bit about me. Make it a great day! :)
