Decorative Crochet Pumpkins

Featured At:

So I hate to admit it, but my mantle looks pretty crappy.. And while I always have big plans to have it decorated beautifully for every season, the only time it really looks good is at Christmas. This year (while I may be a little late) I made a pact with myself that I wanted to at least do it up a little bit fall themed. To start it off, I decided to make some cute crochet pumpkins. They are incredibly easy to make and are the perfect start to my mantle. :)

Can't Get Started Without:
~I-9 (5.5 mm crochet hook
~Vanna's Choice Yarn in Terracotta
~Yarn Bee 'First Love' in Poison Apple
~Tapestry Needle
~Fiber fill stuffing

I chose to make three pumpkins for my mantle because I think things look better in three's, also if you ask my mom, it is apparently good Feng Shui (yes, she is into all that stuff ;)). I decided to make three different sizes and shapes. You can make any size you want though. All you have to do to change the sizes are make your chain bigger or smaller to start and then add fewer or more rows to the length of your piece. I'll give you the pattern for my largest pumpkin and then you can change the sizes for your other pumpkins as you see fit. :)

1: ch 30,

Row 2: BLHDC into second chain from hook and then in every chain until the end of the row. Chain 2 , turn.

Rows 3-32: BLHDC into each stitch until end of row, chain 2, turn. (you can add as many rows as you'd like to get the width of the pumpkin you desire)

Now, slst your 2 ends together,

so that you have a tube.

Next, it is time to create your pumpkin bottom. Do this by taking one end of your tube and sew the sides together like shown in the diagram.

Diagram inspired by Oodles for Noodles

Turn your pumpkin right side out.

Start stuffing your pumpkin with Fiber Fill  to about the half way point.

Using your green yarn attach it to the un-sewn end of your tube.

Ch 2, HDC evenly around the top of the tube, join with first HDC.

Row 2: HDC DEC all the way around.

Repeat Row 2 until there are about 6-8 HDC's left (depending on the width you want your stem to be).

Stuff the rest of your pumpkin.

HDC around until you have the length of stem that you desire, stuff your stem and then HDC DEC to finish off your stem. Fasten off.

And there you have it! A super simple crochet pumpkin decoration!

I think this project is great for a mantle but it would also look super cute as a centerpiece. If you wanted, you could even make one of these cuties as a sweet Halloween or Fall baby toy.

*As always, if you have any questions or need any help with this pattern, please feel free to ask. And if you love these little guys, but don't crochet you can find them for sale on my Etsy shop Eimajinations.*
