I wish the leaves turned bright orange in Houston, but since they don't, I drool over Google pictures and photos friends post via social media. Last week I enjoyed some cooler temps as I embarked on a little time with my northern family in Minnesota, and that made me come home and change colors here in my very own living room :)
I knew I wanted a large wreath, but I certainly did not want to pay the price they are asking these days. Whoa! Instead, I gathered some odds and ends from the craft store and made my own:
Here's how I did it:
Sunburst Grapevine Wreath
Florals - I used off-white sunflowers
Floral Fillers - I used orange berries and burlap leaves
Hot Glue Gun
To begin, I cut off all the flowers, leaving only a small stem to glue to the wreath itself. I then laid it out on the wreath, arranging and rearranging several times, starting with the flowers.
With the burlap scraps, I cut them in to strips of about 3" wide by 6" long:
I then folded them in half lengthwise, then folded them in half again to make a 'cup'. I put a dab of glue on the point and stuck them in the wreath.
Once I have the flowers and burlap glued down, then I went to town adding in the fillers until I felt it was enough. I actually hung it up and added them instead of keeping it lying down. That way I could step back and see where I needed to fill in.
Because I knew this was going on my mantle, I needed a way to hang it. To do that, I decided to hang it from an empty picture frame. I simply wrapped some burlap ribbon around the wreath to make a loop, hung it on the frame, glued the burlap together to hold it, and voila! A hanging wreath, no nails :)
To put my mantle together, I used things I already had on hand with the exception of the lantern (from Hobby Lobby) and the harvest bundle (from Target). I just love how it turned out! Maybe if I crank my ac down to 62 it will feel like fall in here ;)
I created this printable as well, and just for you, here's a free copy :) (print size is 8x8)
Are you ready for fall? What is your favorite thing about this season?
