Simple DIY Monogrammed Tray

I have had this old brown tray for a few years now. It was Goodwill find that I had every good intention of redoing, but just never got around to.

This week seemed like a good time to finally get 'er done! I had a lot of coral paint leftover from my Glass Bottle Wall Sconces, and decided to use it on the tray. There isn't too much coral in our living room, but I absolutely love how it ties in with my current color scheme of yellows, light blues and greens. It's perfect. :)

First, I primed the tray with white primer. (Actually, my primer ran out, so it's not completely covered. Oh well!)

After it was dry, I used a few coats of Valspar Coral Reef paint to cover the tray.

This color makes my heart sing! I can't believe I didn't incorporate it into my home years ago!

While I was waiting for the paint to dry, I designed this fun little monogram on my Silhouette. The flourishes came free in my Silhouette library and I used the font Curlz to make the N.

I cut it out and taped it inside my tray to use a stencil.

Using white acrylic paint, I carefully painted the monogram onto the tray.

I had used a brand new cutting mat to cut this on my Silhouette and unfortunately parts of it stuck onto my tray. So, I had to do a bit of "painting outside the lines" to cover up those little blemishes.

You can see the difference here. But, unless you look very closely, you can't even tell that it was a "mistake". Hurrah! ;)

That was it! This was a quick and easy naptime project- and it cost me $0 to make! Now, that's the best kind of project! :)

I love how it looks on our coffee table. Although I know it will end up on our console table, since my little ones can't be trusted with "things" lying out like that! Ha ha!
And, finally, a before and after shot. The phrase "drab to fab" keeps popping into my head when I see this picture! Isn't it amazing what a little paint can do?

Have you done any quick DIY projects lately?
