Family Wishing Board

The Wishing Board is something that my husband and I have been doing since before we were married. I remember reading in a magazine that visualizing your goals helps you reach them faster. So I figured: what better way to do that than to actually look at a picture of your goal or wish every day? It helps you to stay focused on the big picture and not get distracted by the little temptations that come your way. At least, that has been our experience.

So I took an old cork board and gussied it up with some paint. The first few images we put up were of a bride and groom and a couple lounging on a beach. Once our wedding and beach honeymoon were over, my hubby took the pictures off and were preparing to throw them away since our wish had come true. But I had a better idea. I snagged a super cheap scrapbook  from Hobby Lobby and taped the pictures inside. Then I wrote the date underneath. That way we could always go back and look at all of our finished goals and our wishes that came true and remember when we had reached them.

When we bought our first home.
The porch picture is for when we finally landscaped our backyard and the bike is for when my hubby finished his first triathlon.
Now that we are a family, we are starting to include our kiddos wishes on the board. Only big ones, mind you...not every little whim that they have (I don't think there would be enough room). Right now Disney World is on our board because my daughter has been asking and asking to go. Not sure when this will happen...but I like to look at Cinderella's castle and think how amazing a trip that would be for our family. It helps strengthen my resolve to say no to the Dollar Bin at Target (because let's face it...you never get out of that section unscathed) because every little penny not spent there is more money saved for my daughter to finally meet Ariel while she still believes that mermaids are real.

Not every wish can come true (ahem...my husband's motorcycle picture) but it never hurts to dream big, right? We love our Wishing Board and love having a common, family goal to strive towards together.

What pictures would you put on your Wishing Board?

  1. This is such a neat idea! What a great to keep family goals & priorities in a place that is visible - as a reminder.
