To begin, I used a paper template to cut my pennants, alternating the direction of the paper to not waste the fabric.
Once your pennants are cut, lay out your stencils to 1. Ensure the fit and 2. To position your letters.
I used my silhouette to create my stencils with contact paper, as I did on the wooden block stacker. The contact paper did not stick well to the burlap, so for extra security, I taped the edges down.
Because I had never worked with burlap, I did a test piece
with the paint to judge how much I needed for effect. Also to make sure it
wouldn’t leak through!
Next, paint your letters! I used the same color pink I used on the pot for the RibbonTopiary and Wooden Block Stackers. Don’t you love acrylic paint? It’s so versatile!
While waiting for your banner to dry, lay it out to measure for the ribbon length. Remember to leave extra on the ends to hang it. This is also a great time to lay out how you want it to hang. Do you want the corners to touch, or to have space etc? I chose to leave a little space in between my pennants.
Before gluing, I highly advise you to iron a crease in the top to help with placing the ribbon. If you’ve never worked with burlap, it’s kind of stiff, but it doesn’t cooperate well when trying to hold a crease.
Next, glue your ribbon. I used a glue gun because it dries
fast. I glued the top first, gave it a minute to cool, and then glued the
bottom to create the fold over. Repeat for each pennant.
Once everything has dried, you are ready to hang! I used Emily’s command hook trick to hang mine. (Thanks, Em!) I stepped back, looked at the banner and something was missing:
So, I decided to tie bows in between each pennant. I think it really completes the banner, don't you?

There you have it, another super easy Valentine's project for your mantle! In all, this project took me maybe an hour to complete.
Have you worked with burlap? Did you find it easy to work
with?

I love that pennant! I like working with burlap, partly because it's pretty easy to work with but mostly because it's so inexpensive... if I mess up, I didn't spend too much! :)
